Climate Camp Against Nukes

Climate Camp Against Nukes

organised by IPPNW, Netzwerk Friedenskooperative and ICAN Germany, July 3-7 in Nörvenich

► Zukunftscamp für atomare Abrüstung und Klima-Aktion (DE)

Zukunftscamp für atomare Abrütung und Klima-Aktion / Climate Camp against NukesDue to construction work at the Büchel nuclear base, the tactical air force squadron 33 – which is trained to use the nuclear weapons deployed in Büchel – has been temporarily moved to the Bundeswehr base in Nörvenich. For this reason, the action days will be held in Nörvenich from July 3 to 7, 2024.

The Camp

How will the camp work? What could the ideal week on vacation look like? Maybe camping with friends in the countryside; eating well, water and electricity (self-sufficient) provided. Add to this a really interesting cultural programme where we learn from each other, work creatively on a world without nuclear weapons and simply have a great time.

Getting there

How do I get there? Our Camp will take place this year in Nörvenich in the south-west of Cologne. The camp has now been registered and approved.

The address is: Poller Str. 19, 52388 Nörvenich

This is a meadow with a row of trees, we will provide electricity and water on site. We do not provide a car park, please refrain from using vehicles if possible, or contact us in advance.

Unfortunately, travelling by public transport is somewhat complicated. This is another reason why bicycles are a very good option for those who can.

  • If you take an S-Bahn train from Cologne to Düren, you can get off at Buir and take one of the rare buses to Nörvenich. If you have a bike with you and don’t want to set off from Cologne, Buir is your stop.
  • Alternatively, you can drive through to Düren and, after a short walk, get on the 208 bus at the Kreishaus, which stops after half an hour in „Hochkirchen Weidbergstraße“. From there it is only a few metres to the end of the street. This is certainly the most convenient option.

Why do we need a Climate Camp against Nukes?

Registration

Why register at all? In order to plan our action camp, it is important to know in advance how many people are coming. We don’t want to organise too many…

Programme

This year’s programme will again be hands-on, creative, public, intellectual, musical and much more. Like last year, we will engage in mutual education, practical skill-shares and controversial but respectful discussions about future strategies for our movements.

Let’s meet together and fight for:

► the mandatory inclusion of military and arms industry CO2 emissions in UN climate reports.

► no deployment of nuclear bombs: withdrawal instead of rearmament!

► to recognise the suffering of survivors and environmental destruction caused by nuclear weapons use, testing and production, as well as assistance to survivors and environmental remediation

► climate finance for countries of the Global South (including loss and damage)

► Germany to accede to the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons.

► to implement socially just energy and transport transition instead of new fossil fuel infrastructure.

Looking forward to seeing you!
